Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long Beach, California on 24 August 1972. DuVernay was encouraged by her aunt Denise as just a young girl. Her aunt was a nurse, who did night shifts to ensure that she could devote her day to art literature and theatre. She introduced DuVernay to the film of 1961 West Side Story and DuVernay was captivated by it. DuVernay discovered by watching her mother's model of the power of art as an instrument for activism. DuVernay was taught to be socially mindful through her mother. DuVernay was a child together with her parents in Compton was a summer resident in Lowndes County Alabama in the family home of her father. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historic civil rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the adjacent city of Selma Alabama. DuVernay used the summers she spent in Alabama as inspiration for her next film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. In 1990, she completed her studies at the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood California. DuVernay began to produce for broadcast journalism while she was still at the college. DuVernay was an intern at CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being instructed to look at the trash of the home of a juror. As a result of her tasks she was dissatisfied with journalistic work and entered the business of publicity. DuVernay began her career as a junior assistant to publicity in a tiny film studio, right after graduating from the college. She was promoted to the position and set up her own PR company known as The DuVernay Agency in 1999. In addition, she launched several lifestyle and promotions networks like Urban Beauty Collective.
